R44CNE Bi-Directional Ribbon Microphone: "cost reduced" version of the R44C

"International" 44 Reproduction, reduces weight and cost
The best elements of US and English RCA Ltd. Production. RCA Ltd. used aluminium to reduce weight and cost. Laser engraving. Options: High-Output 'X' motor and satin-chrome brass 'G' grill .

More than just a "cost reduced" version of the R44C, it adds the later modifications to the 44 made by RCA in England that reduced the mic's weight and the hum sensitivity (by 20db!) The circuitry is the same, but the cosmetics are modified to reduce cost. Black and silver finish, satin aluminum grill and cushion mount, and satin chrome yoke.

Over sixty years ago, when audio was on the cutting edge of physics, teams of this country's brightest engineers were developing equipment for sound recording and reproduction. They could afford to work without the commercial constraints placed on today's designers.

RCA developed a superior series of recording and broadcast microphones that included the 44BX and 77DX. The 44 and 77's smooth top end and uncolored sound make them studio favorites today. They are also visual icons of an era when technology and glamour were synonymous.
