spherical wave front unaffected by energy loss at the crossover
frequency in either vertical or horizontal planes; allowing
highly flexible speaker placement on the wall or ceiling with no
compromise to performance and vocal intelligibility.
The Dual Concentric driver in the Di8 DC uses a 200mm
(8.00") complex multi fibre paper pulp mix for the mid bass
cone to achieve optimum acoustic performance, while a
comprehensive resin treatment process ensures the materials
weather resistance. The concentrically positioned 25mm
(1.00") HF unit has a ferrofluid cooled titanium dome, with
a neodymium magnet system, equipped with dynamic high frequency
protection.
Available in textured black or white painted finish with
matching rubber trims, the outstandingly durable and scuff
resistant, high impact polystyrene (HIPS) Di enclosure is weather
resistant (IP rating pending); a construction fully optimised for
consistent performance in adverse conditions indoors or out.
The Di speaker cabinet may be painted to suit the dcor
of the installation. Further architectural modification is
possible by application of alternative colour trims. Two standard
colour trim options are available from stock; enabling black or
white product to be supplied factory pre-fitted with either red
or blue trims.
Other trim colours can also be created to suit specific
requirements, but only as a special order customisation subject
to minimum order quantities. Primarily aimed at corporate
branding applications, this aesthetic flexibility will also
enable colour coordination for larger installs.
Di8 DC - Dual Concentric
Introduction
The
Tannoy Di8 DC is a surface mount weather resistant loudspeaker with a
200mm (8.00") Dual Concentric drive unit for performance critical
installs where high power output and wide frequency bandwidth are
required. The premium audio quality of the Dual is ideal for high
performance stereo or monaural background or foreground music systems
in applications including theme parks, retail premises, restaurants and
cafs, corporate audio visual, residential developments and houses of
worship.
Weather resistant, rated IP64 to EN60529 (IEC529);
the textured black or white painted finish, with matching rubber trims,
of the outstandingly durable and scuff resistant, high impact
polystyrene (HIPS) enclosure is fully optimised for consistent
performance in adverse conditions indoors or out.
Transformer version - the Di8 DCt
The Di8 DCt
model option is equipped with an internally mounted 60W low insertion
loss line transformer, with easily accessible rotary tapping
switch, for 70V or 100V distributed sound applications.
70V systems: 60W / 30W / 15W / 7.5W / OFF & Low Impedance operation
100V systems: 60W / 30W / 15W / OFF & Low Impedance operation
Features
The
Di8 DC speaker cabinet is available in either black or white with
matching rubber trims. Further architectural modification is possible
by factory fit application of alternative red or blue colour trims. Two
standard colour trim options are available from stock; enabling black
or white product to be supplied factory pre-fitted with either red or
blue trims.
Other trim colours can also be created to suit specific
requirements, but only as a special order customisation subject to
minimum order quantities. Primarily this is aimed at corporate branding
applications, where this aesthetic flexibility will enable colour
coordination for larger installs.
Hardware options: A multi position yoke bracket is supplied with all models, passive and active, for easy and rapid installation.
Two optional mounting accessories are available: a pole mount
adaptor kit and, specifically designed for the passive Di models, the
unique, pre-wired and fully adjustable wall bracket, the K-Ball.
A wiring loom through the arm of the K-Ball bracket allows
pre-wiring of the system to a Euroblock connector plug located in the
brackets ball joint. With the assembly mounted to a standard conduit
junction box (J-box) it is ready to receive the speaker during the
install commissioning stage. Simply swivel the Di into the desired
angle for optimum coverage before tightening the locking collar.
Drive Unit
The
200mm (8.00") Tannoy Dual Concentric in the Di8 DC is a point source
drive unit design comprising a resin treated multi fibre paper pulp mid
bass cone and a 25mm (1.00") ferrofluid cooled, titanium dome HF unit
with neodymium magnet system.
The mid-bass and tweeter sections of the Dual Concentric constant
directivity driver are coincidentally aligned to a true point source;
ensuring a wide and controlled dispersion for optimum coverage; this
while avoiding the massive loss of energy in the vertical plane, at the
crossover frequency, inherent in two-way discrete designs. This high
power and high sensitivity design, with extended frequency response and
very low distortion, is equipped with dynamic high frequency protection.
The Dual Concentric point source speaker technology delivers an
acoustic performance of outstanding clarity, definition and detail with
class leading vocal intelligibility with the added benefit that the
speaker can be mounted in either vertical or horizontal orientations on
walls or ceilings with no compromise to performance.
NWAA Labs
Tannoy
has commissioned NWAA Labs, an independent laboratory providing uniform
product testing of loudspeakers and materials to the audio and
acoustics industry, to undertake an extensive specification
verification programme for its loudspeaker products.
With eighty years experience in the manufacture of loudspeakers
Tannoy is justifiably proud of the audio performance of their acoustic
technologies, such as the point source, constant directivity Dual
Concentric driver.
As one of the worlds leading manufacturers of premium quality
loudspeakers we are fully confident in our product performance and the
veracity of our internally generated specifications and performance
data. However, we are delighted now to have established an ongoing
working relationship with NWAA Labs; one that enables us to present an
independently verified folio of technical data for each product,
eliminating the need for this to be repeatedly commissioned by
consultants and specifiers across the world.

Unlike
any other laboratory in the world, NWAA Labs has the ability to do
MACH Testing (Multi Angle Computerised High-speed Testing) to meet
ISO and ASTM standards. Based just north of Los Angeles, California,
the laboratory facilities include an anechoic chamber and two
reverberation chambers uniquely fitted with the MACH Testing system.
Led by former NASA design engineer and scientist, Ron Sauro, the
NWAA Labs team combines the talents of well-respected researchers,
acousticians and consultants to provide unmatched state-of-the-art
testing. Well known in the audio and acoustics industry as a consultant
and a member of the EASE and EASERA computer software development team,
Ron brings over 20 years of field experience to the company.
MACH Testing and what it delivers:
Originally
developed by NASA in 1968 for use in testing the Pioneer, Explorer and
Voyager spacecrafts in addition to the manned Apollo lunar program, the
MACH Testing method has been reformulated into a revolutionary process
for evaluating loudspeakers and materials. This cross-pollination of
technology from the realm of space research to the world of sound and
acoustics research has produced a high-speed testing system unlike any
other.
The new MACH testing method uses a proprietary array comprised of
19 matched microphones and a precision turntable capable of one tenth
degree accuracy. It simultaneously samples impulse responses within an
anechoic chamber and uses these to create loudspeaker radiation
balloons in a fraction of the time used by other testing methods.
This data is gathered by a multi-channel version of EASERA,
using appropriate stimuli, and then is converted to EASE V4, EASE V3,
CLF 1 and 2 formats for distribution to consultants and specifiers.
All the EASE and CLF data, plus the certified
specification files, can be accessed by going to the main site
downloads section or clicking the download tab on this product page.
