Customer Review

purchased a MA200 a couple of weeks back (Pro Audio Solutions in nashville), and just wanted to let you guys know how much I dig this microphone. I've used or owned just about every type of studio mic over the years, from old classics to new boutique companies and custom modded models. the MA200 hasn't just won my shootouts... the others haven't come close. Paired with a Focusrite 428 mic pre, it's deadly.
I'm sure this mic will be on every session I do.
I'll be purchasing another soon. Can't wait to try out the small guy too.
I'll send you the cd results... my new cd should be out in September.
thanks for a truly great product. My ears appreciate it.

Joe Hand, producer/engineer/recording artist

David Royer is known worldwide for his modern ribbon microphone designs. But years before Royer Labs opened, David designed and built custom vacuum tube condenser microphones for Los Angeles engineers and recording studios. His early mics were used on many hit recordings and, for engineers who know about them, they are highly prized possessions. David started a custom mic shop, Mojave Audio, and now Mojave has released the MA-200 tube condenser mic. And it's a beauty!

  • A modern condenser mic with classic characteristics
  • Versatile studio performance on vocals and instruments
  • Precision construction with quality components
A modern condenser mic with classic characteristics
The MA-200 is the culmination of Royer's 20-plus years of custom microphone design. The large-diaphragm MA-200 gives warm, full-bodied reproductions of vocals and instruments without the shrillness and high-frequency grunge so often encountered with modern condenser microphones.

Versatile studio performance on vocals and instruments
Try the MA-200 on lead and background vocals, voice overs, piano, acoustic instruments, drum overheads, orchestra, spot miking... You'll agree with the engineers who tested this mic that it evokes the characteristics of some of the best-loved vintage European microphones.

Precision construction with quality components
In a world of cookie-cutter imported mics the MA-200 is a breath of fresh air. Using hand-selected 3-micron gold-sputtered capsules, Jensen audio transformers, and military-grade JAN 5840 vacuum tubes, Royer designed the MA-200 with an eye on premium performance. But here's the amazing part: The Mojave Audio MA-200 comes in priced at $1095!!

MA-200 Awesome buy! April 19, 2008
Reviewer: Joe Pasquale from Brentwood, TN United States
i have this Mic up in my studio with my Lawson 251 and a 1953 C12.  Now- while it lacks the switchable pattern which limits the ability to color the mic and modify the proximity and sonic footprint (the negatives),  this mic is slamming and i bought after hearing it for 10 minutes.  This mic has wonderful presence and is very clear.  Have used it on both male and female voices through a Vintech x81 through a liquidchannel as an a/d converter.  it is warm and has great character, i cant wait to put it on an acoustic guitar.   While it lacks a bit of the bigness and character of the  C12 or the Lawson, its an awesome mic that gives a great option at an unbelievable price point- this mic needs no eq and it cuts through a track nicely!!  Very quiet and really well made- i believe these mics are going to become very sought after pieces over the next few years, which of course will make them good investments.
