The BV-2 is a uniquely complete FET condenser kit. The package contains two microphone preamp bodies, two mic-mounted metal-mesh pop filters, and a total of 12 interchangeable capsules (6 per microphone) providing a wide array of pickup patterns and options:

• two SDC cardioid
• two SDC omni
• two SDC figure-of-eight
• two SDC hypercardioid
• two SDC wide cardioid
• two 32mm large-diaphragm lollipop capsules

The microphone’s amp body is a low-noise, transformerless design. It is not the same circuit as used in the Avant CK-1 (and the capsules are not interchangeable with the CK-1).

The bidirectional capsule was inspired by the Oktava MK-012 figure-8 capsule, with which it shares a basic physical layout (in the sense that it looks like two cardioid SDC capsules welded back-to-back). The version in this kit was designed by Ken Avant.

The kit contains two mic bodies in padded wooden storage cases, two perforated-metal pop filters and mounts, a stereo mounting bar, and the paired capsules listed above, all fitted within a hardshell tweed case. The shipping kit will likely also contain a pair of Gotham mic cables.
