| The Data Express DE100 is a steel-constructed removable drive enclosure for mounting 3.5 inch form factor, half-height (1.6 inch) or low-profile (1 inch) SCSI or Parallel ATA (PATA, or IDE) drives into 5.25 inch half-height peripheral bays. All Data Express models feature a front-accessible key lock which secures the carrier within the receiving frame.

The Data Express DE100 was created to provide a reliable and versatile removable drive carrier and receiving frame for 3.5" SCSI or PATA devices for use in 5.25" half-height peripheral bays. The DE100 is constructed of solid steel, supports every standard 3.5" drive on the market, and also provides the options for an enhanced, bus-isolating hot swap capability (most models), a solenoid drive lock, and black paint.
DE100 models are available to support Ultra ATA/133 or SCSI Ultra320 interface technologies, including models compatible with single-connect 80-pin SCSI interfaces.
Unlike earlier DE100 single-connect models which contained carrier stub cables, DE100 Ultra320 & Ultra160 SCA carriers are "true" direct-connect devices and are completely cable-free. However, this DE100 model also features a unique adapter board (patent pending) which also allows it to retain the 25,000 insertion rate that all Data Express 68-pin models are known for.
Within Competing Products
The DE100 is an extremely reliable steel subsystem, competitive in both its durability and reliability. Similar competing products do not feature highly-rated (25,000 insertions) mating connectors and may not be constructed of steel or offer enhanced bus-isolating (and/or repeater) or solenoid drive lock options, and/or do not offer all of the interface variations available with the DE100.
DE100 SCSI Ultra320 models are unique in that they can support implementations capable of up to 320Mbytes/sec with up to fifteen devices on one channel (within one chassis).
DE100 Ultra160 and Ultra320 SCA models integrate a field-replaceable, 3.5 CFM fan in the front of the drive carrier for enhanced heat dissipation.
