Impact Twin - FireWire Interface, TC Electronic
Impact Twin is a brand new, state of the art audio interface that
features ground-breaking technology to ensure that the music you record
sounds as good on the inside of your computer as it does on the outside.
How?
Well, Impact Twins two mic preamps utilize our Impact
III Technology which itself features three stages of top
level processing.
You get a high quality and very flexible mic preamp,
superior 24/192 HD Conversion, plus a set of recording Channel
Tools that lets you shape and optimize your sound making it the
perfect recording. With each of these stages carefully combined behind
Impact Twins rugged and cool looking exterior, you have a take
anywhere device that offers the ultimate in recording quality.
Lets
look in more detail at those all-important stages.
The Impact III Mic preamp makes the best of any
microphone. So whether you record with the finest vintage tube mics, the
most demanding low-budget condensers, or even a handheld dynamic,
Impact Twin has been designed from the ground up to maximize the signal
you record into your DAW. And with the two Impact III mic preamps,
Impact Twin gives you maximum flexibility. Whether recording instrument,
line or mic, with or without phantom power, Impact Twin works the way
you need it to.
However, no matter how good your mic preamps, if your signal path
doesnt then lead on to the best converters then you may as well pack up
and go home. Impact Twins 24/192 HD Convertors let you select your
conversion rate all the way from 44.1kHz right up to High Definition
192kHz for the ultimate in pristine audio capture, maintaining the
essential transients of your sound. For years weve been innovating in
the world of signal enhancement, so Impact Twin includes essential
recording Channel Tools that go even further to optimize your sound with
onboard EQ, Compressor and De-esser that quickly, simply and invisibly
tame and enhance those signals no matter what youre recording. Impact
Twin What you play now really is 100% what you record. What you
record now really is 100% what you play. Included with Impact Twin - M40 Studio Reverb -
Assimilator - ResFilter - Ableton Live Lite 8 TC Electronic

iCheck
The iCheck (Integrity Check) feature provides a shortcut for revealing
artifacts of data reduction - essential when encoding mp3 or AAC files
|
When data reducing your audio with mp3 or AAC codecs, the part that
is most affected is the stereo signal. Engaging the iCheck feature will
make Impact Twin play back the part of your signal that is only present
in either the left or right channel, revealing the artifacts of data
reduction in your stereo signal. Thomas shows us some good examples. You
can compare the data reduced and uncompressed side audio in the
following two .wav files

Included plug-ins (M40 reverb, ResFilter, Assimilator)
Impact Twin comes bundled with pristine TC effects processing. The M40 Studio Reverb is
based on an algorithm from our acclaimed Reverb 4000 processor. The
multi-purpose ResFilter
provides ultra-fat filter sound. The Assimilator EQ
curve assimilation tool lets you quickly grab an EQ curve from any sound
and apply it to your own
|
|
The M40 Studio Reverb is included with most of TC's audio interfaces
and also with Impact Twin. You can hear some sound examples in this
video. ResFilter is also included with Impact Twin and is a really cool
plug-in that offers you ultra fat filtering effects. Throw in resonance,
6, 12 and 24 dB slopes for even more stunning sounds. Thomas shows you
how it can be used in this video.

Quick compressor access and feedback
Access the crucial compressor setting directly from Impact Twins front
panel the light ring instantly shows gain reduction
|
|
The compressor and reverb that comes with Impact Twin can easily be
accessed from the front panel of Impact Twin. Turning the knob controls
the amount of compression and pushing it will turn the compressor on and
off. The light ring also indicates the amount of gain reduction when
using the compressor. The knob will also control the different reverb
parameters.

JetPLL jitter reduction
Everybody talks about analog sound quality, but what about digital? With
built-in JetPLL jitter reduction technology, Impact Twin ensures superb
audio quality all the way through the device
|
|
The digital audio routing inside Impact Twin is handled by the DICE
II chip which is also developed by TC Electronic. DIgital audio quality
is as important if not more important than analog because it affects how
the converters perform
